Last updated: April 1, 2026
What Data is Collected
Library Scan collects the following data, all of which is stored locally on your device:
- Your Goodreads user ID (numeric, entered by you)
- Your OverDrive library URLs (entered by you)
- Your selected Goodreads shelves and filter preferences
- Book titles and availability results from scans
- Your Library Scan Pro purchase status
This data is stored in Chrome's local storage and never leaves your device except as described below.
Analytics
Library Scan uses Google Analytics 4 (via the Measurement Protocol) to collect anonymous usage statistics that help improve the extension. The following data is sent to Google Analytics:
- Extension events such as installs, scans, and feature usage
- Aggregate counts (e.g., number of books found, number of libraries scanned)
- Error information to help diagnose and fix bugs
- A randomly generated anonymous identifier to distinguish unique users
- Your IP address, which Google uses for approximate geographic reporting (country/region level) but does not store
No personally identifiable information (names, email addresses, Goodreads usernames, or book titles) is sent to Google Analytics.
Third-Party Services
Library Scan interacts with the following third-party services:
- Goodreads (goodreads.com) — to fetch your book shelves via public RSS feeds
- OverDrive (overdrive.com) — to check book availability at your libraries
- Google Analytics (google-analytics.com) — to collect anonymous usage statistics
- ExtensionPay / Stripe (extensionpay.com) — to process Library Scan Pro purchases. Payment information is handled entirely by Stripe and is never accessible to Library Scan.
Data Sharing
Library Scan does not sell, transfer, or share your data with third parties for purposes unrelated to the extension's functionality. Anonymous usage data sent to Google Analytics is governed by Google's Privacy Policy.
Data Storage and Security
All personal data (Goodreads ID, library URLs, scan results) is stored locally on your device using Chrome's storage API. No account or server-side storage is used. Uninstalling the extension removes all locally stored data.
Your Goodreads Profile
Library Scan requires your Goodreads profile to be publicly viewable in order to access your book shelves via RSS feeds. Library Scan does not log in to your Goodreads account or access any private data.
