Data Stored on Your Device

Library Scan keeps the following in Chrome's extension storage on your device:

• Your Goodreads user ID (entered by you, or auto-detected from goodreads.com)
• Your OverDrive library addresses (entered by you)
• Your selected Goodreads shelves and filter preferences
• Book titles and availability results from your latest scan
• Your Library Scan Pro purchase status
• A randomly generated identifier used for analytics

On goodreads.com pages, Library Scan looks for your own profile link so auto-detect can fill in your Goodreads ID. Library Scan does not read or record anything else from the sites you visit.

Usage Analytics, Error Reports and Session Recordings

Library Scan uses PostHog to understand how the extension is used and to find and fix problems. PostHog receives:

• Usage events, such as installs and updates, opening the extension, the screens you view, buttons you click, scans and their results (number of books checked and found, which library websites were scanned, how long scans took, and why a scan failed), searches (their length and number of results), notifications shown and clicked, and Pro purchases
• Recordings of the extension's popup, showing what it displays and what you type into it. This can include your Goodreads profile, shelves, book titles, library names and searches. Recordings only cover the Library Scan popup, never other websites or tabs.
• Error reports when something in the extension breaks, or when Goodreads or OverDrive pages can't be read
• Technical details: browser and operating system, extension version, how the extension was installed (from the Chrome Web Store, or by a school or organization), and your IP address, which is used to estimate your approximate location (such as country and city)
• A random identifier. It is stored in Chrome's sync storage, so your devices signed in to the same Chrome profile count as one user.

If you purchase Library Scan Pro, the email address used for your purchase is linked to your usage data, so purchases can be matched with how the extension is used and with payment records. No passwords or payment details ever pass through Library Scan.

Third-Party Services

• Goodreads (goodreads.com) — to read your public book shelves via RSS feeds
• OverDrive (overdrive.com) — to check book availability at your libraries
• PostHog (posthog.com, hosted in the United States) — usage analytics, error reports and session recordings, as described above. Governed by PostHog's Privacy Policy.
• ExtensionPay / Stripe (extensionpay.com) — to process Library Scan Pro purchases. Payment information is handled entirely by Stripe and is never accessible to Library Scan.

Data Sharing

Library Scan does not sell your data, and does not share it with anyone except the services above, which process it only to provide their part of the extension.

Retention and Deletion

Session recordings are kept for 30 days, and usage events for up to one year. Uninstalling the extension removes everything stored on your device and stops all data collection. To have your analytics data deleted, contact me using the Contact button above.

Your Goodreads Profile

Library Scan requires your Goodreads profile to be publicly viewable in order to access your book shelves via RSS feeds. Library Scan does not log in to your Goodreads account or access any private data.
